M’sian Man Cooks For Korean Colleagues And Teaches Them How To Eat With Their Hands Only

Spreading the M'sian culture far and wide.
In Malaysia, it’s common for the Malay community to eat with their hands only and this method of dining is a rare sight in other countries, where utensils are normally used.

A Malaysian engineer who works in Korea recently shared how he tried to ‘Malay-ify’ his Korean colleagues by teaching them how to enjoy their meal with nothing but their hands.

M’sian man cooks for colleagues & teaches them to eat with their hands only

In the 2-minute TikTok video posted at @fikriakram91, it began with him buying the ingredients from a market before heading to the kitchen to prepare two dishes for his Korean colleagues to enjoy.

The first dish was udang masak lemak, a coconut-based curry brimming with prawns and vegetables, fried chicken, and white rice.

Fikri also brought with him several types of sambal to complement the meal, which clearly caused a great sense of excitement among his Korean colleagues, with one of them posing with it while grinning from ear to ear.

Instead of using utensils, all of Fikri’s colleagues had to use their bare hands to eat their meal, where there would be “no forks, spoon, and chopsticks”.

However, this didn’t seem to faze them at all as they deftly ate the meal with much gusto while chatting with one another.

Some of them even went for second helpings, proving that Fikri’s dishes were simply too delicious to resist.

Wanted to share the Malaysian culture

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Fikri, who has been in South Korea for five months, said he was largely inspired by his passion for cooking and sharing Malaysia’s unique eating habits and diverse culture with others.

My colleagues’ reaction were overwhelmingly positive and they were genuinely impressed and enjoyed every bite of the Malaysian food.

“The positive feedback has inspired me to plan more Malaysian food sessions for my colleagues in the future,” he said.

Netizens impressed

The clip has since garnered 2.6 million views at the time of writing and netizens were amazed to see Fikri’s colleagues showing a level of skill in eating with their hands.
