Parents will do anything for their children and in some cases, some would resort to breaking the law and risk going to jail.
A Malaysian recently shared a teary story in which he found himself defending a woman in court who had stolen a pencil case set for her son back in 1998.
Stole pencil box to fulfil promise to son
In a lengthy 5-minute TikTok video, the lawyer named Ahmad Zaharil was recounting an incident which he called “the most unforgettable” case ever to take place throughout his 31 years as a lawyer.
According to him, he crossed paths with a woman who was in handcuffs while he was making his way out of court.
When he asked how she got herself in such a situation, she told him that she was caught stealing a pencil case set, which she had promised to give to her son if he was No. 1 in the class for his exams.
However, she had no money to buy the RM18 pencil case set and resorted to stealing it as she wanted to fulfil her promise.
Moved by her story, Ahmad went to her son’s school and verified that he had indeed come out on top for his exams after speaking to his teachers and checking his report card.
Woman’s son becomes a lawyer
Determined to keep the woman out from jail, Ahmad went on to represent her in court for free and was able to reduce her sentence to several years of probation.
19 years after the fateful encounter, Ahmad noticed that he was being observed by another man every day at the court canteen.
To his astonishment, the man revealed to him one day that he was the son of the woman whom he defended back in 1998 and was now a lawyer.

‘Most wholesome story ever!’
The clip has since garnered more than 930,000 views at the time of writing and left netizens in tears over the touching story.
One wrote: ‘Sir, you just made me cry. The best and most inspiring TikTok story!’
Another commented that Ahmad had not only helped the woman, but was also duly rewarded for his kindness in the form of her son becoming a lawyer just like him.
