A Malaysian man recently shared a shocking experience about being rejected for a job before he even stepped into the interview room—all because he was from Kelantan.
Rejected Before the Interview
The man, who attended the job interview in 1993, revealed that the recruitment agent had arranged the session for him.
According to Mstar, while waiting outside the interview room, he overheard the company’s boss yelling at the recruitment agent.
“While waiting, I heard the boss shouting, ‘How many times have I told you not to bring people from Kelantan?’
“That hurt me deeply, but I understood. Perhaps he had a bad experience with someone from Kelantan before,” the man shared in a social media post.
Despite his understanding, he said the situation could have been handled more professionally.
“It wasn’t necessary to yell just to make a point,” he added.
The Lasting Impact
Although the incident happened over three decades ago, the man admitted that it still leaves a bitter taste to this day.
He believes that instead of causing a scene, the employer could have chosen a more courteous approach.
“Just say, ‘I’m sorry, the position has been filled.’ That would’ve been enough,” he reflected.
Interestingly, the company later faced financial issues and eventually went bankrupt.
“I heard they went bankrupt. Perhaps it was karma,” he commented.
Despite the employer’s actions, the man tried to rationalise their behaviour, attributing it to past experiences.
“I think he might have had bad encounters with people from Kelantan before. Although it offended me, it’s a story from long ago,” he concluded.
