According to a report by NST, the incident took place at 8.13am last Sunday (June 9) when the victim, a food delivery person, contacted the insurance agent to break some bad news.
The victim called the insurance agent to inform him that he could no longer pay and was disinterested with the policy and wanted to cancel it. Upon hearing this, the insurance agent threatened to kill the man if he chose to cancel the policy.
He also told the victim that he would pay for his policy for three months to complete the one-year period the victim subscribed to,” said Southwest district police chief Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal to NST.
Kamarul added that the insurance agent also told the victim that he would “cut him” if the latter went to the insurance company to cancel the policy.
Surrendered to police
On Wednesday (June 12), the victim lodged a police report. On the same day, the insurance agent turned himself in to police.
The case is currently being probed under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both if convicted.
