Inflation hasn’t been kind to everyone, where most are forced to dig deep into their wallets to pay for their meals and daily necessities.
Unfortunately, some hawkers are taking advantage of the situation by levying prices way beyond the reasonable amount in a bid to make a quick buck with the excuse of soaring costs, much to the chagrin of consumers.
Charged RM5 for a cup of kopi ais
Taking to Facebook to share one such encounter, an anonymous netizen posted a photo of a cup of ‘kopi ais’ (iced coffee) he had ordered at a hawker stall in Johor to the Facebook group 新山消费者投诉平台.
According to him, he was charged a shocking RM5 for the drink, which understandably left him dumbfounded.
“RM5 for a cup of kopi ais? Is it because I haven’t been drinking coffee for a long time?” he asked bewilderedly in the caption.
‘Wow, expensive!’
In the comment section, netizens were also shocked to see the exorbitant amount that the OP was charged for his drink and expressed their opinion towards the incident.
‘No matter how expensive, isn’t it impossible for a coffeeshop to charge RM5 for a cup (of kopi ais)? Surely there must be a price control in place.’
‘Many have complained about the expensive drinks at this hawker stall. Someone once ordered a cup of herbal tea and was charged RM4 for it.’
One joked: ‘The hawker stall’s boss is aiming to retire at 35 years old. So he hopes everyone will support him.’
Another netizen asked the OP whether he had ordered a medium-sized cup of kopi ais, to which the OP replied by saying that the cup was the one usually used by most coffeeshops.
