In a heartwarming act of kindness, a compassionate individual recently made a difference in the lives of a struggling mother and her child at a local restaurant in Pudu.
The touching story unfolded at a humble eatery when a foreign woman, cradling her child, ordered a meal of plain rice with two types of gravy.
The admin of a Facebook page “Muzz木子” shared his encounter in a post. While dining at a restaurant selling economy rice at Pudu, he saw the mother and child sharing a plate of rice with just gravy and a free cup of Chinese tea.
Only had a plate of rice with gravy
Sitting diagonally across from the mother and child, he observed their interaction while having lunch.
He noticed that the mother kept stirring the rice to evenly coat it with the gravy and slowly fed it to the child with a small spoon.
The child was seen raising his thumbs to show his mother that it was delicious. However, based on the admin’s observation, the mother responded with a lifeless smile, looking a lot like a kind of resigned acceptance of reality.
At that moment, I wondered if they didn’t have enough money to eat.” the admin wrote.
His guesses were reinforced by the mother not being affected at all even when the waiter walked past her with a plate of dishes.
When the woman was done feeding her child, she walked to the condiments counter and took a small plate of chilli padi with soy sauce, which she then stirred with her remaining plate of rice and consumed.
Moved by their situation and wanting to make a difference, the admin decided to take action. He purchased a fried drumstick and gave it to the mother and son at their table. The mother looked up, clearly puzzled by the unexpected act of kindness.
He pointed to the child, offering a thumbs-up, and the mother responded with an imperfect yet heartfelt “Thank You.”
A plate of saucy rice, even without any side dishes, was meant to ensure that the mother and child wouldn’t go hungry. A fried chicken leg, while not enough to fill them up, was meant to make them feel a little warmth.

Speaking to WeirdKaya, the admin of “Muzz 木子” said the mother is likely from Myanmar.
Based on his observation, she seems to have just reached Malaysia, as she did not have any mobile phone or identity card with her, possibly a refugee.
She could hardly pronounce the simplest phrase “Thank You” properly.
He added that he offered help because he knows how it feels to live a tough life as he had tried having only one Roti Canai for a day.
When the mother got up to get some chili to eat with her rice, I could relate to how uneasy her life has been.
Following some netizens’ comments on why he didn’t get them two drumsticks, the admin said he didn’t want the mother to feel the burden of being pitied.
I just wanted to let the child know he’s great by giving him the drumstick. This is of course also an encouragement to the mother.
