For most Malaysians, turning 15 years old is the time of their lives where they would bury their heads in their textbooks for the PT3 exam, not wondering whether they’ll get hitched.
However, one Form 3 girl in particular shocked netizens with her getting all giddy over the prospect of her getting married and even had a jaw-dropping reason for her excitement.
M’sian girl boasts about getting married at just 15yo
A screenshot of the incident was originally posted to TikTok but later found its way to X (previously Twitter), where it was shared by a netizen named @maafcakaplah.
In the screenshot, the picture of the girl and her presumably husband-to-be were seen being held side-by-side, while the marriage registration form appears in the background.
Based on the marriage registration form, a few things was revealed about the girl: she was only 15-years-old, lived in Rantau Panjang in Selama, Perak, her highest education was until primary school, and had no email address.
To top it off, the girl didn’t too bothered by the fact that she was getting married at such as young age, where she commented rather nonchalantly:
I’m not going to school, so I’m getting married as it’s easier.
‘Not something to be proud of’
The tweet has since been viewed 4.8 million times and netizens were stunned by how lightly the girl seemed to be treating the issue.
‘Sorry to say this but getting married early is not a flex but being a delusional widow is? Make it make sense.’
‘Isn’t she a minor? Plus no email (address)?’
One pointed out that the girl’s lack of proper education could have caused her to fail in realising that becoming a wife at 15 years old isn’t the best idea.
Another called for child marriages to be abolished in Malaysia, adding that the country was no longer living in ancients past.
