We’re often told to cherish our loved ones while they’re still around as we do not know when they will leave us for good.
A young woman could only wrap her arms around her father’s grave and bid him a tearful farewell after she was unable to secure bus tickets to attend his burial in time.
Was informed of father’s passing
Speaking to Harian Metro about the heartbreaking incident, Nurul Akmal Sulaiman, who works as a health care assistant in Bukit Saujana, Johor Bahru, said she received a call at 4.40am last Thursday (Aug 10).
The call came from her sister, who wanted to inform her that her father, Sulaiman Mohd, had succumbed to a heart attack.
Unfortunately, she was still asleep at the time and only came to know about it at 6.30am, where she rushed to the bus terminal to catch a ride back to her hometown in Kampung Parit Che Ha, Kuala Terengganu.
Unable to buy bus tickets
Unfortunately, all of the bus tickets were sold out due to the state elections, leaving Nurul Akmal with no choice but to take a bus to Kuantan and be picked up by her brother.
When I reached the cemetery at 4.30pm, my father was already buried after Zuhur prayer,” she said.
As a result, all she could do was embrace her father’s grave and kiss the ground as she said her final goodbye to him.
Before her father passed, Nurul Akmal said she last visited him at the neurological ward, where he was undergoing treatment.
“I managed to visit my father in the hospital, but he couldn’t speak during that time. That was the last time I saw his face and I’m heartbroken to know that he’s gone now.”
She also said she regretted not meeting, hugging, and kissing his body as she made her way back home, adding that she shared a close relationship with her father and that her mother had died from a heart attack two years ago.
Our deepest condolences to Nurul Akmal for her loss and may her father rest in peace.
