M’sian Gets Warning Letter For Not Completing 10 Videos A Day, Says Company Refuses To Provide Proper Laptop

He claims he was given a 200-video monthly KPI despite using a laptop with only 8GB RAM and a 128MB graphic card.
A Malaysian man claimed he received a warning letter for failing to complete 10 videos a day, despite using what he described as an underpowered laptop provided by his company.

“Yesterday I received a warning letter because I didn’t finish the videos.

“10 videos a day. After editing 5 videos, the laptop already sounds like a warship. Where’s the logic?” he wrote.

KPI: 200 videos a month

According to him, his KPI requires a minimum of 200 videos per month, which works out to about 10 videos a day.

When asked about his target, he replied: “200 minimum.”

He also shared the laptop specifications, which include:

  • Intel Core i5 11th Gen
  • Intel Iris Xe Graphics
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128MB graphics memory allocation

He claimed that after editing five videos, the laptop would overheat and slow down significantly.

The laptop simply doesn’t support editing. But they still expect results.”

Repeatedly asked for better equipment

The man said he had repeatedly asked his employer to provide a more suitable laptop or PC for editing.

“I’ve asked so many times for a new laptop,” he wrote, adding that he even offered to take a loan himself if the company could just pay the deposit.

He alleged that his requests were ignored.

I know my own capability to produce 10 videos per day. I already told them to provide a proper PC. It’s been 6 months and nothing has changed.”

According to him, the company’s reason for not upgrading the equipment was that sales were not high enough.

“They said sales aren’t high, so they can’t buy a new laptop. But they have three or four businesses.”

Netizens slam company’s expectations

Many netizens sided with him and criticised the company for expecting high output without proper tools.

‘One PC with 12GB VRAM and 16GB RAM also struggles to render one video, and this is 128MB? Might as well throw the laptop away, one commented.

Another joked, ‘Sure, it can render fast. In 320p.’

Some advised him to respond formally to the warning letter, while others suggested escalating the matter if necessary.

One commenter warned that termination under such circumstances could potentially amount to constructive dismissal.

Several users stressed that companies should supply proper tools, especially for technical roles like editing.

Another shared from past experience, writing: ‘I did heavy After Effects rendering with nonstop revisions until my MacBook Pro logic board melted. What did the company do? Nothing.’

Not resigning without another job offer

Despite his frustration, the man said he is not resigning immediately.

“It’s not that I don’t want to resign. But it’s better to have an offer letter from a new company first.”

He ended his post by asking if any companies in Petaling Jaya were hiring content creators, editors, or videographers.
