It’s incredibly hard to find a proper parking space at times due to the high number of cars on the road, and it’s all the more frustrating when you finally find one…only to see it being “booked” using objects such as a chair or traffic cone.
A woman took to social media to share how an unidentified individual berated her in the form of a handwritten note as she had parked in a spot which allegedly belonged to them.
What note said
In a Threads post by @adilapauzi, she showed a photo of the handwritten note which was left on the windshield of her car.
It read:
If you’re parking in someone else’s spot, leave your phone number. Don’t play dumb. This is my parking spot. Understand? It’s hard to find you in the whole flat, nobody knows you. Next time, don’t park in my spot.”
This undoubtedly left Adila feeling slighted, who questioned whether she was in the wrong for parking at a spot which had no parking bay number or parking fee.
“Public parking is still public parking. There’s no such thing as ‘my parking spot’ unless you own it or have exclusive rights to it.
“Please don’t normalise the culture of ‘reserving’ public parking spaces,” she wrote.
Under Section 50(3) of the Road Transport Act 1987, reserving a public bay is an offence carrying up to a RM2,000 fine or six months in jail, although the law does not specify that the object used has to be a traffic cone.
Got called ‘stupid’
In a brief interview with WeirdKaya, Adila said the incident took place on July 19 when she was about to go to work, where she had to enter through the passenger side as another car was parked very closely to hers.
“At that moment, I heard a man shouting from upstairs, saying, “Oh, so smart, huh? Stupid.” I ignored it because I was already late for work. It was also at that moment when I saw the note.
“I was quite upset by it because when I returned from work, the parking spot in question was empty, while other parking spots had already been reserved with objects such as bins, and some had even been covered with roofs,” she added.
Hopes incident will be a reminder
Adila said she doesn’t intend on finding out who was behind the note as she’s worried something untoward might happen to her car. She also said she has yet to file a report with the authorities as she’s unsure of who to turn to.
“I hope this can serve as an awareness for everyone. Public parking spaces are meant to be shared fairly and should not be claimed or reserved without proper rights or permission.
“Let’s respect each other and avoid actions that may inconvenience or cause discomfort to others,” she said.
