A Malaysian man’s encounter with an elderly woman who accidentally knocked into his car has left netizens touched after he chose kindness over compensation.
Finds note and cash after minor accident
In a viral Threads post, the man shared that he had gone to the market on a Friday morning.
When he returned to his car, he noticed a letter tucked near his bumper, which had come slightly loose and scratched.
According to the note, an elderly woman and her child had accidentally bumped into his car while trying to park.
She apologised and left her contact number, along with RM206 in cash as compensation.
Decides to reach out
Feeling uneasy about keeping the money, the man said he decided to contact the woman via WhatsApp.
Through their conversation, he learned that the elderly woman was in her 70s and living alone with her grandchild after her own child had passed away. They reportedly lived in a kampung and only had one car.
Realising that the money she left behind might have been all she had, he decided to return it to her.
The man later met up with the woman and gave back the RM206, adding a little extra out of his own pocket.
He said the situation made him reflect on how, even when we feel like we are struggling, there are others facing even greater hardships.
Sometimes we think our life is difficult, but there are people who have it much harder than us.”
