M’sian Family Horrified To Find Tiny Worms Inside Noodles Bought From Johor Stall

That's disgusting!
A family’s plan to enjoy noodles from a famous stall turned into a nightmare when they found some strange and unsettling “extra ingredients” in their meal.

A Malaysian man recently recounted a horrifying experience in which his entire family was shocked to find not just one, but numerous tiny insects and its remains in the noodles they had ordered from a restaurant in Johor.

“Thought the black spots were food crumbs”

“While a single insect may be considered normal, what if the entire dish is filled with insect remains?” the OP stated.

According to his post, the family had ordered takeout from a supposedly renowned noodle stall at Muar, Johor.

Once back at their place, the OP transferred the food onto a plate and noted that the first impression he had was that the “the dish looked dirty” as he saw many crumbs in it, thinking they were from the pot.

So, he didn’t think much about it and continued eating.

“After a few bites, I felt a sandy sensation, paused for a few seconds, thought it was strange, and started feeling nauseous” he explained.

Growing more curious, he carefully attempted to remove what he believed were just dirty black spots. To his shock, he discovered a visible worm, a clear insect body in his meal just as he was about to finish it.

The OP initially thought the discovery of a worm in the food to be normal.

Next, he suggested to his family that they should stop eating, expressing concerns about the numerous crumbs and his discovery of a worm in the dish.

By this time, even the family thought those black spots in the food were probably shrimp or fried onions.

But then, one family member grabbed their reading glasses and carefully started taking out each of those “black spots.”

Black spots were actually insect remains

They decided to stop eating when they were halfway through the meal. Using a magnifying glass and a phone lens, they checked for shrimp, fried onions, or crumbs among the black spots.

“It wasn’t until later, when we put the suspected insect remains on a white tissue paper, that we mustered the courage to suspect they were indeed insect bodies,,” shared the OP.

Could be from dried onions or the oil used

The OP then speculated that the worms discovered in their meal might have originated from onions infested with bugs or potentially from expired oil.

He also highlight that the insect parts (head, legs, and tail) changed into what looked like “black spots” could be during the cooking process. While the rest were just chili seeds and bits of food that didn’t dissolve while cooking.

“Watch what you eat”

The OP also mentioned that their family opted for this stall due to numerous recommendations from friends. However, they encountered this issue exclusively during their own visit.

“So, we appeal to everyone, regardless of location, watch what you eat” the OP wrote in the post.

“Dining out always carries some level of risk, and even if you’ve been lucky so far, that doesn’t mean issues aren’t present.” he said.

Moreover, by sharing his experience, he reminds everyone to prioritize hygiene, emphasizing the importance of inspecting food before consuming and being extra cautious.

In addition, the OP emphasized his intention not to expose the stall, clarifying that the sole purpose of sharing the experience was to raise awareness.
