A family’s return home nearly took a deadly turn after they were knocked out unconscious by a suspected gas leak, causing their car to crash right into the Bentong toll plaza barrier yesterday (Apr 24).
NST reported that the incident took place at around 2.40pm while they were travelling back to Balakong from Tok Bali, Kelantan.
Rescued by police
According to Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, all four passengers, a man, his wife, and two children fainted in the car, causing the car to ram right into the toll plaza barrier.
“After the accident, policemen who were on patrol along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway during Op Selamat rushed to the family’s aid and were assisted by highway patrolmen, the public and highway employees.
“All of the victims were carried out of the vehicle and given first aid treatment by medical officers,” he said.
Unconscious due to suspected gas leak
Zaiham said that preliminary investigations found that the entire family was suffering from a lack of oxygen, which caused them to black out entirely.
He also said that a suspected gas leak from the car’s malfunctioning air-conditioner was most likely responsible for the accident, adding that the family was extremely lucky to emerge from the incident largely unscathed.
Not long after, a man named Syafiq Mok who identified himself as the eldest son took to Facebook to express his gratefulness to those who came to his family’s aid.
“I am the eldest son of the family and everyone is safe and conscious now. The reason for their unconsciousness was due to gas poisoning.
“My father and our entire family are deeply grateful to all those who helped us. Only God can repay your kindness,” he wrote.
