A student taking Foundation in Architecture at UIA Gambang (International Islamic University Malaysia) was accidentally left behind by family members at the Kijal Rest and Service Area (R&R) in Terengganu while on the way to the university.
This family had sent off their youngest son Ahmad Syakir Luqman with two cars but none of them realised that he did not return to the car after a toilet break.
It wasn’t until Ahmad contacted his mother after he came out of the restroom and couldn’t find the car in the parking lot did they realise that he wasn’t with them.
The incident was later posted to TikTok by Ahmad’s elder brother Mohammad Khairul Azmi Ghazali, where it showed the family waiting for his arrival along the East Coast Expressway 2 and the teen asking his family why they never noticed his absence.
‘No one noticed he was missing
Speaking to mStar about the incident which took place on July 31, Khairul said they were travelling from Kampung Jerong Seberang in Marang, Terengganu and stopped at the Kijal R&R to use the toilet.
We stopped for about 20 minutes, and he was inside the car the entire time, so we thought he didn’t need to go to the toilet.
“Moreover, he was in a car with our parents, while I was in another car with my wife and grandmother. He was sitting at the back, so nobody noticed that he wasn’t inside the car,” he said.
Khairul added that after travelling for one kilometre from the Kijal R&R, the family discovered that Ahmad wasn’t with them.
My mother was surprised to receive a phone call from my brother as she thought he was sitting at the back. When she looked behind and saw he wasn’t there, she panicked and got worried.
“We couldn’t turn back to get Ahmad, so we told him to hitch a ride from someone else. He later found a driver at the R&R but was too shy to ask for help, so I spoke to the driver myself and asked him to give my brother a ride, which he gladly obliged,” he said.
‘You’re famous now!‘
The amusing clip has since garnered more than 2 million views at the time of writing, where netizens were tickled to see Ahmad being mistakenly left behind by his family.
Some said that Ahmad was now an online celebrity as everyone at the university would recognise him as the one who got left behind at the R&R.
One netizen shared a similar story where the village head was also mistakenly left behind while travelling from Perlis to Melaka for a wedding ceremony.
The owner of the Myvi car that gave him a ride also left a comment on the video.
“Owner here. Luckily, the little brother dared to ask for a ride from me,” he said briefly and Khairul thanked him for his kindness.
