Recently, a post by a man showing a conversation of an employer had with a young job-seeker has sparked a debate online.
The Malaysian man shared a screenshot of an encounter where an employer mentioned the lack of manners displayed by the interviewee during the job inquiry through a chat.
However, the situation reversed, as the employer found herself criticized by netizens instead.
M’sian employer mocks interviewee
Faiz Aman, took to his Facebook account to share his thoughts along with screenshots of the conversation an employer had with the interviewee through WhatsApp.
In the screenshot he shared, the employer was seen asking the interviewee to introduce herself, particularly requesting her name, age, address, and current job status.
In response to the question, the girl straightforwardly answered his questions, providing the information that had been asked for.
Unexpected answers
Stunned by her direct response, the employer then decided to offer some feedback regarding her manner of responding to an employer during the job search.
“The way you replied gives the company an idea of your attitude. I apologize if my criticism has hurt your feelings,” the employer further stated.
Interviewee replied to the feedback
Replying to the feedback, she said that each person has their own approach.
“Now I know… people can see attitude through texts. By the way, do you know what my behavior is like? Maybe you find my chat a bit hurtful for you even though it’s just short replies. Different people, different ways, sir,” she answered back.
His post has since gone viral, garnering over 900 comments from netizens.
Received criticism instead
This post eventually has drawn criticism from some netizens, who blamed the employer for the way she asked questions to candidate.
One user criticised the employer, saying that the question he directed at her was improper.
“What’s wrong? She answered correctly. It’s the employer’s question that’s incorrect. For example, a question like: ‘Can you tell us why our company should hire you and what advantages you bring?’.”
Another person suggested that the employer improve their interviewing skills.
“I think this admin needs to google a bit on how to interview people.”
Additionally, another user remarked that it’s unfair to judge a candidate in such a manner.
“She only answered one question, and for me personally, it’s okay. It’s somewhat unfair to judge a candidate like that. The admin should undergo training to become a better interviewer.”
On the other hand, another user, believed to be an employer as well, shared a similar experience she had with an interviewee.
“The other day, handling the interview for the protege was similar. Responding as if we’re at the same level as them. It’s frustrating, really, when you think back on it.”
The employer responded to the criticism
In response to the backlash, Faiz acknowledged the opinions of others. Additionally, he firmly mentioned that acceptance of the matter could also be influenced by factors such as age, culture, social background, family upbringing, and even education.
He also emphasized that if there’s a mistake, it can still be improved upon to become better and rectified.
“Thank you very much for sharing knowledge and opinions… I learned a lot from your comments,” Faiz wrote, noting that he didn’t expect this matter to receive much attention.
