M’sian Elderly Man Request For Payment On Delivery To Buy His Last Flower To His Wife

Let's hope there will be more flower to come.
In a flower shop nestled in the bustling streets of a busy city, an unusual request stirred the emotions of the shop owner, a woman who had seen all manner of requests in her line of work.

Bringing the incident onto Facebook, the story began with a phone call from an elderly man, eager to order a bouquet for his wife’s birthday.

Payment on delivery

However, his request was peculiar—he could not make an online payment and instead asked if the flowers could be delivered to his home with payment made upon delivery.

Initially, the florist was hesitant. Her shop didn’t offer cash on delivery due to past experiences with deceitful customers and logistical challenges with drivers who were unable to collect payments.

The elderly gentleman, in his sixties and unfamiliar with bank transfers, was politely refused and advised to seek other flower shops that might accommodate his request.

Persistence led to a third call, this time the man asking for the shop’s address, intending to arrange a ride to pick up the flowers himself.

Deliver the flowers themselves

Over dinner, the florist discussed this with her husband, who was moved by the story and suggested they deliver the bouquet themselves.

Upon arriving at the customer’s home, the florist was greeted warmly by the wife, smiling at the door, eagerly awaiting her surprise. But the presence of the husband was notably missing.

When the florist carried the bouquet inside, she discovered the poignant reason behind the husband’s absence from the doorstep: he was mobility-impaired, slowly making his way to express his gratitude.

“The Last Flower”

“This is the last time I will be able to give flowers to my wife,” he confessed, revealing his declining health.

The moment was overwhelmingly touching, leaving the florist at a loss for words, repeatedly muttering, “As long as you’re happy, that’s what matters.”

She was grateful for her husband’s availability that day, which allowed her to fulfil the elderly man’s heartfelt request.

Reflecting on the day’s events, the florist took to Facebook to share the story, a poignant reminder of life’s unpredictability and the importance of cherishing every moment.

“This is a scene I will never forget for as long as I live,” she wrote.
