Oftentimes, we often ignore the need to wear seatbelts while at the rear seat as we believe that nothing untoward will happen to us.
A Malaysian DJ recently took to social media to share the painful consequences she suffered as a result of failing to put on her seatbelt while seated at the back of the car.

Didn’t wear seatbelt while in rear seat
Last Friday (Apr 7), Ai FM DJ Shuleen posted a photo of her eyes and body covered in bruises with the following caption:
The pain of physical injuries, the distress of psychological trauma. You don’t want to experience this, not even once. PLEASE FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT, EVEN AT THE REAR SEAT.

Not long after the posting, concerned netizens began asking what had led to her being left with such terrible injuries, where Shuleen explained in the comment section.
According to her, she wasn’t driving the car at the time and had fallen asleep on the right rear seat without her seatbelt on.
“I was asleep that time and wasn’t too sure how it happened. In just a blink of an eye, I was thrown to the front dashboard from rear seat,” she wrote.

Despite her injuries, Shuleen maintained a jovial spirit and was even able to crack a joke with a hospital staff who attended to her, as recounted in a separate post.
“On the day I got admitted, the doctor asked what was my name. I told him, ‘Amoi cantik’ and he and the nurse couldn’t help but to smile.”

At the end of the post, she encouraged everyone to always keep a positive spirit and outlook on life despite its difficulties.
Are seatbelts compulsory for rear passengers?
Under Malaysian law, all passengers, both in front and back of the car, are required to put on a seatbelt.
Those who fail to do risk being fined up to RM2,000 or jailed for up to one year, as stated on the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) website.
Always remember to buckle up in order to keep yourself and others safe!
