A father of two was ordered to be jailed for a month and fined RM300 by the KL Magistrates’ Court for stealing various items from a supermarket in Taman Maluri, Cheras.
The accused, Mohd Rashid Mohd Noh, pleaded guilty to the charge that was read out before Magistrate Faezahnoor Hassan, reported Utusan Malaysia.
Stole RM404 worth of items
According to the charge sheet, Mohd Rashid stole a total of 20 items worth RM404.22 from the supermarket located in Taman Maluri at 8.10pm on Apr 18.
This included two tins of sardines, all-purpose flour, dishwashing liquid, bath soap and an air freshener.

He was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum jail term of up to 10 years and a possible fine.
If caught committing the same offense again, he may face imprisonment as well as a fine or whipping.
Pleaded for lighter sentence
Deputy public prosecutor Nor Farhana Mohd Poad urged the court to impose a sentence that would serve as a lesson to the accused.
Defence counsel M. Soosai Raj from the National Legal Aid Foundation requested for a lenient sentence, saying that Mohd Rashid is still supporting his two schoolgoing children.

“My client works as an e-hailing driver and supports two children who are still in school. I ask that the minimum custodial sentence be imposed,” he added.
Magistrate Faezahnoor sentenced Mohd Rashid to a month in jail and imposed a RM300 fine as well.
In addition, Mohd Rashid faces a seven-day jail term if he fails to pay the fine.
