Getting your wallet stolen is never a pleasant experience as not only does it cause a lot of stress and worry, it also requires a lot of time replacing the credit cards and identification documents.
A man in KL not only had his wallet stolen, but also had his credit card spent like there was no tomorrow by a young couple.
Man drops wallet at restaurant
According to the now-deleted Facebook post, the man wrote that he went for a meal at a sushi restaurant at Setapak, KL last Friday (Mar 17) at 7.15pm.
When he saw a long line outside the restaurant when he arrived, he decided to get out of his car and take a queue number, where he dropped his wallet unknowingly.
Due to his habit of using Apple Pay, the man didn’t notice his wallet’s absence until two days later, when he saw a list of transactions being made on his credit card.
Couple spend lavishly on stolen credit card
Shortly after filing a police report, the man went to track down the transactions, where he discovered a majority of it was done as multiple Watsons stores.
Fortunately, the staff were able to show him CCTV footage of the thieves, which were a young couple who had used his stolen credit card.
He also noted that the woman was the one doing the payments while her partner merely watched.
When they were done, the couple was seen carrying both big and small plastic bags filled with items out from the store.
While the man thanked the staff for providing him with this valuable footage, he called upon netizens who knew the couple to urge them to return his wallet, which he “liked very much”.
Couple returns wallet due to ‘public pressure’
It seemed like the man’s pleas were heeded as his wallet was finally returned to him yesterday (Mar 20).
According to the latest post, the couple decided to return the wallet to him as they were unable to withstand “public pressure”.
The man added that he held a discussion with the couple, who agreed to return what they had stolen as well as absorb the costs he had incurred due to the theft such as his petrol and card replacement fees.
However, it’s not stated whether this included paying back for what the couple had spent on using the credit card.
The original post was also taken down at the request of the couple in exchange for the wallet’s return.
