M’sian Couple Hold Wedding Photoshoot Despite Being Stuck In Kedah Floods

Making the most of the situation.
With torrential rain and floods lashing through several states in Malaysia, having a wedding photoshoot is probably the last thing on anyone’s mind.

However, a pair of newlyweds in Kedah refused to let the worsening flood condition in Kedah deter them from celebrating their marriage and instead made the most out of it.

In an interview with Astro Awani, the bride, Nur Izzatul Asma Mustafa, said the wedding reception had been planned over the course of five months and that a total of 1,000 guests were invited.

Unfortunately, it had to be scrapped at the last minute when Kedah found itself submerged in floodwaters. Furthermore, the food that was ordered to be served during the wedding reception was eventually distributed to the public due to worsening floods.

On top of that, light vehicles were restricted from using the route from Pekan Kepala Batas leading to their homestay in Titi Besi, Kepala Batas, due to rising water levels.

Despite the unfortunate and unexpected turn of events, Nur Izzatul said she and her husband Mohamed Khairie Mohamed Kamal, still wore their wedding attire and took several photos to commemorate the occasion.

“The wedding reception was planned since May and it included invitations, bridal outfits, makeup artists, decorations, and souvenirs, costing around RM20,000.

“As for the food, the caterers agreed to deliver it but we had to pack everything, including souvenirs, for distribution using a lorry.

“We also rented the homestay for four days after our home in in Kampung Alor Ganu was submerged in waist-deep water,” she said.

Although Nur Izzatul admitted that she was disappointed to see the reception being cancelled, she and her husband still considered it to be “historic” given the fact that they celebrated it during a flood.

“We took pictures in our wedding attire on boats and four-wheel drives, with the flood as the background,” she added.

As for Mohamed Khairie, he said he was relieved that the solemnisation ceremony went smoothly but was disappointed over not being able hold a reception for his family in Simpang Kuala due to impassable routes.

“I’ve only seen flood weddings on TV or social media, and I never thought I’d do one myself. But we’ve accepted it as there’s nothing more we can do,” he said.

Congratulations again to the couple for their marriage and we hope everyone stays safe during the floods!
