M’sian Couple Falls Off Penang Bridge While Having An Argument

The male victim suffered injuries to his head.
For couples, having an argument is something that happens occasionally or if you’re a hot-tempered person, more than usual.

For this one couple in Penang, their verbal argument was met with a watery conclusion after they both fell off the Penang Bridge but were fortunately saved by a group of fishermen and a civilian.

Harian Metro reported that the shocking incident occurred at Kilometer 2.8 of the Penang Bridge heading towards Perai last night (Jan 15).

Perai Fire and Rescue Department Chief of Operations Shahrul Munawer Taharen said the department received a call about the incident at 7.49pm.

He added the couple were driving a Honda Civic before stopping the vehicle by the side of the bridge.

It is understood that there was a quarrel between them before they both fell into the sea.

“A member of the public, who was present at the scene, immediately jumped in to rescue the victims,” he said when contacted by the Malay daily.

Several fishermen also pulled the couple to safety onto their boat as they happened to be at the scene too.

Male victim injured

Shahrul Munawer added that the couple were taken to the Marine Police Force (PPM) jetty in Batu Uban before receiving medical treatment.

“Both victims, both in their 30s, were sent to the Penang General Hospital for further treatment. The male victim suffered injuries to his head as a result of the fall.

“The case was later handed over to the police for further action and the rescue operation ended at 8.35pm,” he said.

Videos of the incident has since gone viral on social media, where it showed scores of curious bystanders crowding at the Penang Bridge.
