There’s a saying that goes, “Men are from Mars, while women are from Venus”—a phrase commonly used to describe how differently wired the genders are from each other.
A woman was left questioning her boyfriend’s sincerity after she noticed that he never put in as much effort into celebrating her birthday when she does the exact opposite for him.
Differing levels of effort
In an anonymous posting, the woman wrote that she would often out of her way to prepare surprises and order a custom-made cake for her boyfriend on his birthday.

But when it came to her birthday, the woman claimed her boyfriend wouldn’t do the same for her.
I’m not trying to compare, but all I got was the most ordinary cake from a shop. It just feels like he doesn’t put much thought into celebrating my birthday.
“When I brought it up to him, he said I was crazy and blamed me for making a big deal out of it.”
The woman also claimed that it was not better when it came to birthday gifts, as her boyfriend would usually drag his feet in buying her a gift or tell her to patiently wait for it.

This would then lead to arguments as her boyfriend would complain about her being anxious or pressuring him into buying gifts.
Stay together or break up?
The woman lamented that she now doesn’t know what’s the next step in the relationship as her boyfriend often left her feeling that she was always the one in the wrong.
However, she admitted that her boyfriend still treats her well, leaving her to wonder whether she should hang on to the relationship or let it go.
Netizens in the comment section left their thoughts over the issue, with one telling the woman that her expectations were unrealistic, adding that “life’s not a fairytale”.

Another felt that the woman and her boyfriend were unable to communicate effectively as they were on different wavelengths.

One bluntly told the woman that if she was one who focused heavily on the ritualistic side of celebrations, she should break up with her boyfriend as he was a person who’s suitable in only taking care of her basic needs.
