M’sian Company Manager Fined RM6K For Letting Quran Binding Occur At Non-Muslim Owned Factory

She paid the fine to avoid going to jail for 6 months.
The manager of printing company was slapped with a RM6,000 fine after she was found guilty of allowing thousands of copies of the al-Quran to be bound at a non-Muslim owned factory, reported Harian Metro.

The accused, 42-year-old Idora Abdul Rashid, was found to have violated the Quran Printing Control and Licensing Board (LPPPQ) licence conditions and was ordered by Magistrate Nur Natasha Mohtarudin to sit in jail for six months if she failed to pay the fine.

Allowed Quran to be bound at non-Muslim owned factory

According to the charge sheet, Idora was accused of not complying with the conditions of the license issued by the Printing Control and Licensing Board of the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) by allowing the Quran to be bound by non-Muslim factory workers.

The offence was committed at a factory in Taman Perindustrian Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan, Selangor at 3pm on Sept 5, 2023.

Based on the facts of the case, a total of 2,540 copies of the Quran were seized after the company was found not to have complied with the licence conditions issued by LPPPQ and KDN by letting non-Muslim worker bind the holy book.

Idora was charged under Section 5(7) of the Quran Text Printing Act 1986, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or a maximum of five years’ imprisonment upon conviction.

KDN prosecuting officer Mohd Amin Azhar Qairil Yusoff prosecuted while Idora wasn’t represented by a lawyer.

Before the sentence was meted out, Mohd Amin requested the court to impose an appropriate sentence while Idora pleaded for leniency, saying that this was her first offense.

It is understood that she later paid the RM6,000 fine issued by the court.
