Finding out that you did not get a job is already disappointing, but one Malaysian woman was left confused after being told that her application allegedly failed because of her CTOS record.
Her experience sparked a debate over whether a person’s financial record should affect their chances of securing employment.
‘HR checked CTOS, but it did not pass’
In a Threads post that garnered around 600,000 views, the woman shared a message she allegedly received after attending a job interview.
“Hi, I’m sorry. HR checked your CTOS, but it did not pass,” the message read.
She said it was her first time being rejected by a company for this reason and asked whether having a CTOS record meant that someone could not work.
When another user asked about the position, she revealed that she had applied for a job at a jewellery shop.

Responding to questions from netizens, the woman claimed she was not asked to sign any consent form allowing the company to conduct the CTOS check.
According to her, the interviewer only mentioned the check after the interview had ended.
She also claimed she was upfront about having a financial issue involving Coway. The interviewer allegedly told her that it was not a problem and appeared more concerned about major bank commitments such as housing or car loans.
However, she was later informed that her CTOS check had failed, leaving her wondering why the company could not hire someone with such a record.
