Back in the days when we were university students, we would be given an allowance by our parents for us to get by the month.
A TikTok video has recently gone viral after several students revealed the astonishing amount of allowance they get on a monthly basis, much to the shock of netizens.
Received an allowance ranging between RM5K & RM10K
In the video posted by a content creator named Cha Loud (@scholarzzz), it showed her interviewing several university students about how much they get for their monthly allowance.
While a majority of them gave a figure most would consider to be decent, two students stood out from the rest, with one stating she gets an allowance of RM10,000, while another revealed that hers ranged between RM5,000 and RM7,000.
Cha Loud then went on to ask the two students another question: how much monthly allowance would they consider enough to live comfortably?
And according to the student who received between RM5,000 and RM7,000 in allowance, she opined that she would need at least RM3,000.
Netizens in disbelief
Needless to say, netizens were stunned to see the amount of allowance university students get nowadays as compared to their time years ago.
‘RM10K? Your allowance is way more than my basic salary, sis.’
‘Me crying with my RM250 monthly (allowance).’
‘I don’t know how I survived with RM200 monthly during my college life but so far it has been enough.’
OP clarifies on RM10K allowance
Following the overwhelming response regarding the video, Cha Loud posted another video addressing the reaction towards the student who said she gets RM10,000 allowance monthly.
In the clip, Cha Loud said that the student misheard her and thought she was asking how much allowance she got per semester, not per month.
@scholarrzz Replying to @૮₍´˶• ᴥ •˶`₎ა Dia just misheard je so relaaaaax guys hahaha & pendapat kita semua beza-beza✌🏻 Jangan mengamuk!! #f #fyp #uni #uitmshahalam #student #pelajar ♬ original sound – Cha Loud 🍉
She added that the student was from Sabah and had to spent a huge chunk of her allowance just to fly back to her hometown.
Cha Loud also slammed netizens who kept poking and prodding over how much allowance the students got, saying that it’s their personal right to receive whatever amount their parents saw fit.
