Whether you’re an adult or kid, fast food will never fail to bring a glow to your eyes when it’s being offered to you as it’s considered to be the ultimate comfort food.
Sadly for a student, his joy at receiving a box of McDonald’s fried chicken was quickly dashed after it was revealed that it didn’t contain what was written on the label.
Non-existent McDonald’s fried chicken
The incident was brought to light via a Facebook post by a teacher named Abdul Muiez Mohammad Ruslee, who shared what had transpired.
According to the caption, he was contacted by an individual whose son had received a box with the words ‘McDonald’s fried chicken’ written on it during a program organised by a certain state’s Education Department.
When the box was opened, it revealed that what was inside wasn’t crispy fried chicken, but a piece of bread and a packeted drink.
Was left on ‘bluetick’
Angered and disheartened by the false hope which was given to the child, Abdul said he immediately dropped the person-in-charge a message to seek an explanation.
However, his message was left on a ‘bluetick’, a term suggesting that the other party had seen it but declined to reply.
Abdul also shared a screenshot of the conversation he had with the student’s guardian about the matter.
In the conversation, the guardian said that he hopes the organiser will be more attentive next time and not give “false hope” to children who were looking forward to have a sumptuous meal of McDonald’s fried chicken.
Netizens angered by trickery
The post has since garnered more than 3,000 reactions at the time of writing, as well as angry comments from netizens who were appalled by the organiser’s dishonesty.
‘So many cases of children being played around like this. Poor thing.’
‘Hopefully McDonald’s Malaysia will treat these kids to a meal.’
‘Cruel! If this were to happen to adults, they would be disappointed too.’
WeirdKaya has reached out to McDonald’s Malaysia for comment on the matter and will update the article once we get a response.
