There’s a phrase that goes: ‘Behind a successful man is a woman’, and this couldn’t be any more true for an extremely lucky man in Singapore.
This is because he walked away with a staggering cash prize of US$1 million (approx. RM4,400,000) after buying several gold chains for his wife.
Man wins RM4.4mil at lucky draw event
The lucky draw event was organised by a jewelry store in Singapore’s Little India named Mustafa Jewellery, which has been holding monthly giveaways that award a single customer US$5,000 (approx. RM22,000) for the past 14 months.
This time, they decided to kick things up a notch with its “Million Dollar Grand Draw” on Nov. 24, where the grand prize was US$1 million.
Based on the store’s website, only those who spend a minimum amount of S$250 (approx. RM828) were eligible for the grand draw.
On the day of the grand draw, the winner was revealed to be a project engineer in civil construction named Balasubramanian Chithambaram, who burst into tears when he received the news.
In a video that was shown at the event, Chithambaram said he was thankful to God for the win, adding that the win happened to fall on the day of his father’s fourth death anniversary.
Bought RM19k worth of gold chains for wife
Chithambaram also revealed that he had spent around $6,000 (approx. RM19,000) worth of gold chains for his wife three months ago.
When queried on what he plans to do with the prize money, Chithambaram said he will first break the news of his win to his mother.
He added that he plans to give a portion of the money back to the community as a token of appreciation for the 21 years he spent working in Singapore.
