Whenever we hear of an armed robbery, one would often associate it with a scene from the hit Netflix series Money Heist, where masked robbers would storm into a bank or jewelry shop and stuff piles of cash into gunny sacks before making their getaway.
A man in Terengganu took a rather unorthodox approach by robbing a daycare centre with an air gun, trapping six children and a supervisor inside the premises.
According to the supervisor, the robber entered through the backdoor, pointed the gun right to her face in the kitchen, and demanded her to hand over all her money.
However, she managed to grab hold of the weapon and struggled with the robber, causing him to fire a shot towards the floor.
Hulu Terengganu district police chief DSP Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the suspect fled the scene with jewelry, RM4000 in cash, a mobile phone, and the victim’s official documents.
“He also smashed the naco window in the kitchen and escaped on a red Honda EX5 with an unidentified number plate,” he added.
The incident has sparked intense discussion online, with many speculating that the robber had marked the supervisor as his prime target beforehand.
“She had RM4000 in hard cash on her. Of course, the robber would choose her as his victim,” one said.
“Why did the supervisor have so much cash with her? How did the robber know about that amount? Maybe someone close to the supervisor had leaked this information to the suspect.”
Some remarked that the robbery sounded like one that would take place in foreign countries.
“I thought it happened in the U.S. before I clicked into the link.”
On the other hand, some took the opportunity to poke fun at the situation.
“Who knows? This might be a training course for the robber.”
