“But I’m Malaysian!” — Man Caught Pumping RON95 Petrol Into SG-Registered Car In JB, Tries To Argue Way Out

Cannot means cannot.
Every now and then, we would read stories of individuals illegally pumping RON95 petrol into their cars at petrol stations, primarily at Johor Bahru where Singapore-registered cars are often guilty of this.

This time around, the driver of a Singapore-registered car who was caught red-handed tried to argue his way out by claiming that he was a Malaysian and had done it before elsewhere.

‘I’m Malaysian also cannot ah?’

In a 1-minute clip posted on SG Road Vigilante – SGRV on Facebook, it showed a man in a white t-shirt being confronted by a woman who caught him pumping RON95 petrol into his Singapore-registered car.

He then replied, “Cannot ah?” as he was putting the fuel pump back into the holder, to which the woman firmly said, “Cannot.”

The man tried once again to weasel his way out of the situation while wounding the fuel cap and closing the fuel door by saying, “Even though I am Malaysian also cannot ah?”

No, doesn’t matter [if] you’re Malaysian or what but you are using [a] Singapore car. If you are Malaysian, you should know what,” the woman answered.

After getting the receipt, the man said that he was allowed to pump RON95 at petrol stations in Melaka and KL, but the woman admonished him and reiterated that he cannot pump RON95 petrol into his Singapore-registered car.

Illegal under Malaysian law

RON95 petrol, which costs RM2.05 per litre and is subsidised by the government, is reserved solely for Malaysians and foreign-registered cars are prohibited from using it.

Those who are caught breaking the law are liable to a fine of up to RM1 million or a jail sentence of not more than three years, or both.

As for the petrol station operators, they are liable to a fine not more than RM2 million.
