Mamak Stall Ordered To Close 14 Days After Clip Of Staff Peeing Goes Viral

This is the third time this restaurant has been closed for unhygienic practices.
A Mamak restaurant located at Hang Tuah Street has been issued to close for 14 days due to severe cleanliness issues discovered on the premise.

This action was prompted by a viral clip showing one of its employees allegedly urinating in a nearby drain, leading to a surprise inspection just a few days ago.

Reported by Kosmo!, Dorothy Dayang Henry Sum, the deputy director of the state Health Department (JKNM) (Food Safety and Quality Division), stated that the decision to close the restaurant was made due to the discovery of significant hygiene concerns during an impromptu examination at the premises.

Adding on, she mentioned that this premise failed to meet the prescribed hygiene standards, and inspectors uncovered additional concerns, such as cigarette butts found in the storage area.

“We received complaints regarding the viral incident, and a surprise inspection revealed that the restaurant did not adhere to the required cleanliness standards.” Dorothy shared.

Consequently, the closure order was issued for 14 days under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.

In addition to the closure directive, the authorities have also issued four compound notices totaling RM1,500. Two of these notices were issued under Regulation 33, addressing the cleanliness of the restaurant’s staff.

No restroom facilities

Addressing the incident of the staff urinating, the restaurant owner clarified that he rented a small space in the adjacent building.

While it had restrooms, there were issues with water supply. This led employees to look for other places for their restroom needs.

This premise is issued closure for the third time

Dorothy further highlighted that this was not the first time the restaurant faced closure. It had previously been ordered to shut down twice in 2022 due to cleanliness-related issues.

As health authorities address the violations and enforce hygiene standards, this incident emphasizes the need to keep food establishments clean.
