Lifts are meant to transport people to floors that are located way up in a building and most often take it for granted that a breakdown will not happen while they’re using it.
A group of visitors at a hotel in Johor Bahru had a fright of their lives after the lift suddenly froze and went into a free fall from the 4th floor.

Taking to TikTok to share the harrowing experience in a 59-second clip, user @kef_tan wrote in the caption that the lift “came to a hard stop at level 4” and plunged downwards “a split second” later.
Calling the event “horrifying” and couldn’t be compared to what is shown in the movies, the OP said that the emergency button inside the lift wasn’t working either.
To make matters worse, he was trapped inside the lift with 10 other people plus a baby. He also claimed that no one came to their aid as they were trapped in the darkness for 10 minutes.
Left with no choice, the clip showed the trapped guests prying the lift door apart with their bare hands in order to escape through a triangular-shaped gap.
Fortunately, the OP reported that no one was hurt from the incident and said that it took place at KSL Hotel and Resort in Johor Bahru.
Netizens claim incident not the first time
The clip, which has since garnered more than 240,000 views at the time of writing, saw comments from netizens who said that it wasn’t surprising to see such incidents happening at the hotel.
One wrote that the hotel had a poor record of maintaining its lifts and said that it was “scary” taking one.
Another shared how she was stuck inside the lift for almost 2 hours and like the OP, pried the door open as she got no help. She also claimed that the security team took no further action after she reported the incident to them.
Another tried to inject some humour into the matter by poking fun at the hotel’s name.
