LHDN Just Gave You 15 More Days To Do Your Taxes, Deadline Is Now 15 May 2026

Forgot to file? Relax but only a little. Here's everything you need to know before you get penalised.
Okay, so if you’ve been stress-scrolling and ignoring your tax filing responsibilities, you just got a small lifeline.

Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (HASIL or LHDN) has announced that the deadline for submitting your Borang Nyata (BN) for the 2025 tax year has been extended to 15 May 2026.

This extension covers individuals who are NOT running a business think salaried employees, freelancers with non-business income, and also organisations, estates (harta pusaka), and Hindu joint families (keluarga sekutu hindu) that aren’t conducting business activities.

Taxpayers are encouraged to make use of this extended period by submitting their BN earlier to ensure smooth processing and avoid system congestion near the deadline.”

HASIL is rolling out mandatory e-Filing this year, which means the old way of walking into a HASIL office and handing in paper forms is no longer the move.

To give everyone time to adjust to this, they’re granting a 15-day grace period for online submission.

You can file via mytax.hasil.gov.my or through hasil.gov.my.

Key dates

  • Original deadline: 30 April 2026
  • New extended deadline: 15 May 2026
  • Tax year: 2025
  • Filing method: e-Filing (mandatory)

Don’t be the person who files last minute

HASIL’s gentle warning: don’t wait until 14 May to start panicking. System congestion is real, we’ve all experienced the dreaded MyTax buffering screen.

File early, file accurately, and save yourself the cortisol.

And yes, penalties still apply if you miss the 15 May deadline.

HASIL reminded everyone that late or non-submission of BN is an offence under the Akta Cukai Pendapatan (ACP) 1967. So, please, just do it.

Before you submit, double-check all your documents; income statements, receipts, and relevant records. One submission, done correctly, beats the headache of amending later.
