When hiking in the forest, we’re often told to be careful of wild animals or losing our footing when walking on slippery slopes. However, not many would be on the lookout for leeches.
A man in Thailand had his hiking trip turned into a scene straight from a horror movie after a leech somehow found its way into his friend’s eye, causing him great pain.
Leech crawls into man’s eye during hiking trip
Taking to his Facebook page to share the horrifying encounter on Monday (Nov 6), Apichart Prommathat wrote that it was “unbelievable” and “very true”.
According to him, he and a friend were hiking when the latter put the camera down on the ground as he looked for a spot to take photos.
While the camera was on the ground, a leech crawled its way to the top of the device and settled itself on the viewfinder.
Failing to notice the leech, Apichart’s friend placed the camera against his eye. At that moment, the leech crawled into his eye and attached itself to the tear duct before starting to suck his blood.
Spent over 30 mins removing leech
Apichart’s friend then began screaming in pain, prompting both Apichart and his friend to spend more than 30 minutes pulling the leech out with their bare hands.
The reason for their arduous task was due to the lack of proper equipment and them not knowing how to remove the leech.
Thankfully, they managed to pull the leech out, although it left Apichart’s friend with a red eye.
Apichart then went on to advise others to carry salt water with them whenever they go hiking and put it into their eye if something similar happens. He also encouraged them to bring medication too.
Congrats on making to the end of this article. We hope you didn’t faint after reading it!
