Malaysian badminton stars Lee Zii Jia and Nur Izzuddin have again captured the spotlight, topping the Smash It Leaderboard at the BWF World Tour Finals 2024 in Hangzhou.
Known for their explosive gameplay and exceptional records, the duo proved why they’re among the sport’s elite.
Lee Zii Jia – A Consistent Powerhouse
Lee Zii Jia’s supremacy in the Men’s Singles category was undeniable as he clinched the top two spots on the leaderboard with smashes clocking in at 419.8 km/h and 415.4 km/h.
Not stopping there, his smash of 405.6 km/h secured the seventh spot, making him the only player to dominate the leaderboard with multiple entries.
This isn’t Lee’s first time wowing fans with his blistering smashes. At the 2024 Malaysia Masters, he set the record for the fastest smash of the tournament with a speed of 497.1 km/h, solidifying his reputation as one of the hardest hitters in the sport.
Nur Izzuddin – A Double Threat in Men’s Doubles
In Men’s Doubles, Nur Izzuddin shattered expectations with a 444.4 km/h smash, the fastest recorded in the category at this year’s Finals. He also took the third spot with an equally impressive smash of 426.1 km/h, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.
Given that it’s the first time Izzuddin, alongside his partner Goh Sze Fei, made it to the BWF World Tour Finals, the pair has been a rising force in men’s doubles.
This recent leaderboard dominance underscores Nur’s evolution as a player, cementing his place among the best in the world.
Other Stars Light Up the Smash It Leaderboard
While Lee Zii Jia and Nur Izzuddin dominated the Men’s categories, other players brought their A-game to the Finals.
China’s Zheng Si Wei led the Mixed Doubles rank with a smashing 399.9 km/h. A seasoned champion, Zheng is known for his explosive style, having won multiple World Championships with his partner Huang Ya Qiong.
Liu Sheng Shu from China recorded the fastest smash in the Women’s Doubles category at 383.2 km/h, continuing her streak of impressive performances this year.
Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung topped the Women’s Singles category with 369.8 km/h, a testament to her ever-improving game that earned her a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships.
