A divorcee was recently caught allegedly committing ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) with a bachelor by Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) at 1.50am on Sunday (Sept 13).
According to Harian Metro, the raid was conducted following a complaint lodged by a member of the public, who alleged that the woman, who has a child, frequently visited the apartment at night and would only leave at around 6am the next morning.

Acting on the complaint, JAINJ officers rang the unit’s doorbell for five minutes before they were met by a man wearing a T-shirt and long pants.
After identifying themselves, the officers conducted an inspection of the three-bedroom house and found the woman in the living room while clad in a T-shirt and long pants.
During questioning, the duo admitted to not being married to each other or being step-siblings. Officers also found that the unit was being rented by the man, who worked in Johor Bahru and lives alone.
Checks on the woman’s background revealed that she lived around 10km from the unit and had travelled there after being picked up by the man in a car.
She also claimed that she only wanted to help the man with cooking and sweeping the floor when questioned why she visited the house so often.
The couple also tried convincing officers that no immoral acts had taken place and pleaded not to be detained.
However, JAINJ officers denied their request, explaining that being together with a non-family member at a secluded area is an offence under Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment.
