Michelle Yeoh, renowned for her powerhouse performances, recently opened up about an emotional chapter of her life that few would expect from a global star.
During an interview with BBC Woman’s Hour, Yeoh shared her painful journey of trying to have children and the heartbreak of coming to terms with infertility.
“I always wanted to have children,” the 62-year-old actress began. “It didn’t happen, so I went and did fertility treatments to try and help the process.”
But the repeated disappointments took a toll.
“The worst moment is every month,” Yeoh said, her voice faltering. “You feel like such a failure.”
Presenter chimed in to clarify, “There comes the blood, so it means (pregnancy) hasn’t happened, yeah.”
Yeoh nodded, explaining, “You go, like, why? Why is this happening? At some point, you stop blaming yourself. You have to accept that there are certain things in your body that don’t work in a certain way. That’s how it is. You just have to let go and move on.”
Moving forward with self-acceptance
When asked how she found closure after such a difficult experience, Yeoh admitted the process was long and complex.
“Sometimes, I still think about it,” she said. “It took a long time to come to terms with it, and honestly, it may have been a key reason my first marriage ended.”
She reflected on the tough but necessary conversations couples need to have in such situations.
