A comedic outcry has emerged from the Ipoh Food Facebook group, where a post wryly warns members to stop spilling the beans about Ipoh’s ‘hidden gem’ eateries.
This comes after the locals noticed many of their beloved food stalls turn into tourist hotspots, thanks to Kuala Lumpur’s voracious visitors, pushing food prices upwards.
The author’s post appears to be a call to action for Ipoh locals, suggesting they keep their treasured, lesser-known food spots undisclosed to prevent further exposure that could lead to price hikes due to increasing tourist interest.

Famous food in Ipoh is getting pricier
The viral message resonated with Ipoh residents, sparking comical comments and strategy to protect their beloved cheap eats.
An Ipoh native, now residing in Selangor, lightheartedly shared their strategy for an authentic dining experience: skipping well-known spots in favor of where the crowds go, inadvertently highlighting the trend of popular places being frequented by out-of-towners.

Some pointed out a savvy strategy, “Ipoh local people will go to smaller food restaurants or shops to eat, avoiding the tourist spots that charge tourist prices.”

“Ipoh’s food, in one word: ‘Expensive!'”

Another comment highlighted a changing business focus: “It’s true, nowadays, Ipoh business owners prefer tourists. Locals don’t eat? There are plenty of tourists who will.”

The playful tone of the comments reveals a serious concern about maintaining the affordability of their beloved local cuisine.
