Ipoh Man Gets Death Sentence For Cutting Off Dad’s Head & Chopping Him Up After He Was Scolded For Taking Drugs

His claim of insanity failed to save him.
A man in Ipoh will be facing the gallows for allegedly murdering his father five years ago after the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal yesterday (Mar 6).

The judgment was passed by a three-member bench led by Justice Kamaludin Md Said, who “found the conviction and sentence by the High Court to be safe”, reported Bernama.

After he was scolded by his father for taking drugs in the house, Poh Khoon took a machete and cut off his head, along with chopping up his body into six parts.

He then buried the head in the backyard while the body parts were thrown into a 1.5m-deep sewage hole.

Poh Khoon was later sentenced to death by the Ipoh High Court on May 25, 2022.

Claimed he was insane at the time

According to Poh Khoon’s lawyer Amir Faliq Mohamad Jamil, he said that the prosecution had called a psychiatrist to evaluate his client’s mental state, where he was found to be sane at the time of the murder.

However, he added that temporary insanity wasn’t ruled out and that Poh Khoon tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

In response, deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Muhammad Azmi Mashud said that a medical evaluation carried out at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta found that Poh Khoon was of a sound mind when he committed the crime.

In fact, he was was able to drive a car for more than 100km and detail the incident and what he did to the deceased,” he added.

Muhammad Azmi also said that the testimony given by six prosecution witnesses declaring Poh Khoon to be insane due to drugs was made based on their own observations.

He added that none of their statements contradicted the psychiatrist’s conclusion that he was sane at the time of the murder.
