Indian Tourist Missing For 8 Days In Cameron Highlands Found Dead

An Indian tourist who went missing since Sept 22 was found dead in a river.

The body of Nanda Suresh Nadkarni, an Indian tourist who had been missing for the past eight days after climbing Mount Jasar, in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands has been discovered in a river near Kampung Atap, situated on the border of Pahang and Perak.

Indian tourist missing found dead

As reported by BuletinTV3, the Cameron Highlands District Police Chief, DSP Azri Ramli, said the body was found at about 3.40 pm.

However, he said, the victim’s body could not be taken out of the location due to geographical factors.

Through a media statement he said “The rescue team will use a helicopter to bring out the body tomorrow,”

According to the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department’s Public Relations Officer, Zulfadli Zakaria, said at about 3.30pm yesterday (Sept 30) the rescue team found the victim’s jacket and backpack near Sungai Ubi.

He explained that the search and rescue team conducted a search around the affected river area, including Kampung Atap, located in Perak, and found the victim’s body.

“The rainy weather conditions last evening made it impossible to carry out the operation to bring out the victim’s body, and the search and rescue team had to spend the night at the location where the body was found,” he said.

The 44-year-old victim was reported missing after climbing Mount Jasar, September 22.

The victim reportedly checked in at a hotel in Tanah Rata on September 19 and was supposed to check out on September 24 but did not return to his accommodation after climbing Gunung Jasar.

Following that, the hotel owner made a report about the disappearance of the victim on September 25.

The victim’s body is expected to be taken out at 9am today (Oct 1) using a helicopter and will be sent to the Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital, Cameron Highlands for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
