A netizen shared her sighting of a hornbill in Seremban, sparking a conversation about whether such a sighting is rare.
The incident, posted on Xiaohongshu by user 雯甜爱分享, features a video of the hornbill sighting at seeming urban area.
This unexpected visitor, typically native to the dense forests of Sarawak and Perak, presents a curious anomaly with its appearance in the less forested area of Seremban.
Only in Sarawak?
The hornbill perched casually on a lamp post, looking quite at home in the urban setting.
The hornbill, noted for its distinctive and slightly less saturated beak colour, was seen casually grooming its feathers high up the street.
“Saw a hornbill in Seremban, alone. I thought they only appeared in Sarawak or Perak. Did it sneak its way out over here?” The caption of the video wrote.
Netizen reaction
This prompted numerous responses from the online community, with many users discussing the rarity and possible reasons for the sighting.
“Maybe they are migrating.”
“These types are quite common in West Malaysia, Sarawak one has more vibrant beak.”
“This is an Oriental Pied Hornbill, which is smaller in size. They are commonly seen in the south of Thailand, west Malaysia, and nearby areas. Therefore, this sighting is not too rare; Sarawak has a different breed of it.”
