Honest M’sian Driver Informs Staff After He Noticed RON97 Had The Same Price As RON95

He quickly told the station’s staff about the error and paid an extra RM200 in advance to cover the correct price.
Have you ever pulled up to a gas pump, seen the price per liter drop significantly, and thought, “Wow, did fuel prices just plummet?”

That’s precisely the unusual situation one man encountered, turning what he thought was a lucky day into a showcase of integrity.

This went down on last Saturday in Batu Pahat, Johor.

One honest hero spots the too-good-to-be-true price while gassing up his ride.

The man, a regular user of RON97 for his car, is used to a full tank costing around RM340.

Because of transaction limits, he usually has to swipe his card twice to hit that amount — once for RM200, then topping off.

RM2.05 per liter, instead of the usual RM3.47

But this day was different. His pump stopped at RM179, and his tank was already full.

Puzzled, because he’d just returned from overseas, he wondered if fuel prices had plummeted while he was away.

Peeking at the pump, he saw the price per liter was just RM2.05, sharply less than the RM3.47 next to it.

Instead of playing it cool, he walks straight to the station’s staff to flag the mistake.

Not stopping there, he even suggested they shut down all RON97 pumps for a bit to stop the same thing from happening to others.

With it being the weekend and no office staff on hand to consult, he decided to leave RM200 in cash.

The value of honesty

Speaking to WeirdKaya, he expressed concern that the station staff might get in trouble or face deductions from their pay if the pricing error went unnoticed.

“As a businessman myself, I understand the repercussions of losses and didn’t want the staff or the company to suffer because of a mistake,” he told WeirdKaya.

The gas station, located near his office, was quick to respond on Monday.

The staff thanked him and returned the excess money he’d left.

Reflecting on his actions, he said, “As a Malaysian, I believe these are the basic manners we all should uphold, but it was still a remarkable incident. In my many years of driving, this was a first.”

His actions, born out of a simple intent to do right, struck a chord online.
