Honest people do exist!

A Malaysian cross-border worker who found a wallet containing more than 400 Singapore dollars took to social media to locate its owner without any intention of keeping it.

The act of honesty was reported in Johor Bahru on February 24th, highlighting the commendable integrity of a man belonging to the cross-border community.

The unfolding of the incident

On the evening of February 21st, around 9 PM, the worker, named Jimmy, discovered a shimmering object under a bench in the shade of a large tree near Changi Business Park, Singapore.

His curiosity led him to a long wallet which, upon inspection, was found to contain 428.50 Singapore dollars (approximately 1524 Malaysian Ringgit), among other personal items including the owner’s work permit.

Despite being pressed for time to return to Johor Bahru, Jimmy took the wallet with him, intending to safeguard it until he could find the owner.

He examined the contents again at 10:30 PM at home and decided to use the power of social media to aid his search.

Posting on the Facebook group “Malaysia-Singapore Cross-Border Commuters,” Jimmy hoped that the collective effort of the online community would help reunite the wallet with its owner.

The social media post quickly bore fruit; within half an hour the next morning, the owner’s friend contacted Jimmy.

By the afternoon of that day, the wallet was successfully returned to its rightful owner, a Chinese man from Sarawak named Wang, who, like Jimmy, works in Singapore and resides in Johor Bahru.

Speaking to mStar, Jimmy shared that Wang offered him a monetary reward, but he didn’t accept it.

The only reward he accepted is a nominal 2 Singapore dollars (about 7 Malaysian Ringgit) to cover the cost of a Teh Tarik.

Jimmy also shared that this was not the first he had done this. He had previously found and returned a wallet in a similar manner the year before.
