# “Must Have Smelled Nice” — M’sian Hockey Player Hanis Onn Slammed For Racist Comment On AR Rahman Concert

##### Malaysian hockey player Hanis Onn is facing the wrath of netizens after she was caught making a racist comment on the AR Rahman concert held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday (Jan 28).

## Made racist comment on IG

In a screenshot posted to the subreddit [r/Malaysia](https://www.reddit.com/r/malaysia/comments/10ny0vd/racist_malaysia_hockey_player_hanis_onn_komen_on/), it showed several comments posted on Instagram by netizens who were seemingly indifferent towards the Oscar-winning composer's concert.

Hanis Onn herself then decided to be part of the conversation, where she wrote what seemed to be a subtle insult towards Malaysian Indians:

## Backlash from netizens

It didn't take long for Hanis to get lambasted by netizens, who slammed her for her ignorance and blatant display of racism.

Following the online outrage, Hanis admitted her wrong and apologised for the comment in an Instagram story.

> **Throughout my 10 years in playing hockey, I've been surrounded with friends from various races that strive for Malaysia. **

"With that, I express deep regret for my carelessness and extend my apologies to those affected," she said.

For those who aren't familiar with Hanis Onn, she is a decorated hockey player who made history by becoming the** [first Malaysian female player](https://www.thestar.com.my/sport/hockey/2017/04/03/a-first-for-malaysia-hanis-makes-history-with-asias-most-promising-player-award/) to receive the Asia's Most Promising Player Award for 2016.**
