Malaysian hockey player Hanis Onn is facing the wrath of netizens after she was caught making a racist comment on the AR Rahman concert held at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday (Jan 28).
In a screenshot posted to the subreddit r/Malaysia, it showed several comments posted on Instagram by netizens who were seemingly indifferent towards the Oscar-winning composer’s concert.
Hanis Onn herself then decided to be part of the conversation, where she wrote what seemed to be a subtle insult towards Malaysian Indians:

The smell must have been the best in there (Bukit Jalil Stadium).
For those who aren’t familiar with Hanis Onn, she is a decorated hockey player who made history by becoming thefirst Malaysian female player to receive the Asia’s Most Promising Player Award for 2016.

It didn’t take long for Hanis to get lambasted by netizens, who slammed her for her ignorance and blatant display of racism.
Following the online outrage, Hanis admitted her wrong and apologised for the comment in an Instagram story.
“With that, I express deep regret for my carelessness and extend my apologies to those affected,” she said.
