GEORGETOWN – A minor fire broke out near the Guan Yin statue at the Kek Lok Si Temple yesterday (Feb 3).
In a Facebook post, Air Itam MP Joseph Ng Soon Siang said that the fire occurred at 12.30 pm but no injuries or damages to the statue was reported thanks to the joint effort between the Fire Department and police.
The source of the fire is still under investigation.

Several netizens were slightly shaken by the incident and believed that it was a bad omen.
Others also expressed concern over the cause of the fire and the level of security at Kek Lok Si Temple.
One netizen suggested that the temple committee hire a security guard to prevent such incidents in the future.
