In a blatant disregard for designated spaces on the MRT, a group of men has sparked outrage by occupying women-only coaches and obstructing the area with bicycles.
The initiative, in place since last year, aims to provide a safe and comfortable space for female commuters, but a few defiant individuals seem unwilling to adhere to the rules.
Men taking up seats & blocking pathway on MRT
A concerned user on the X platform recently shared a shocking message, shedding light on the inappropriate behaviour of these men.
The accompanying image vividly captures the men not only taking up seats but also impeding the pathway with their bicycles.
The post has ignited a heated debate among netizens, condemning the misuse of facilities specifically designated for women.
‘The problem here is they sit in the women coach’
Critics also expressed frustration over the lack of consideration for proper bike storage, further aggravating the situation.
One disgruntled user voiced their displeasure, stating, “Bicycle gangs acting like losers, emanating a pungent odour, and occupying the women-only coach.”
Another user highlighted the possibility of ignorance, suggesting, “They can bring their bikes during non-peak hours, but sitting in the female coach is unacceptable. Maybe it’s their first time using the MRT.”
Asserting the misuse of the coaches, a user firmly stated, “The problem lies in using women’s coaches for the wrong reasons.”
Providing clarity on the MRT’s bicycle policy, an informed user shared, “You can bring a bicycle onto the train since 2017 (except ETS) but not during peak hours.”
Bringing bicycles into MRT is not wrong but…
In light of the incident, it’s essential to remind commuters that bringing bicycles into the MRT is permitted on Saturdays and Sundays.
However, this privilege is not an invitation to park bikes at will within the MRT coach. Clear guidelines exist to ensure orderly travel, and commuters are urged to exercise responsibility and respect for others’ space.
