KOTA KINABALU – A teenager forced to jump out from a moving car suffered injuries to her hand and leg after she was molested and robbed at knifepoint by the driver near Jalan Kionsom on Thursday (Mar 31).

According to Kota Kinabalu police chief Supt George Rakman, the victim had gotten into a dark blue car before 9 am to make her way to work in Menggatal near Inanam.

“During the ride, the driver named ‘Zahid’ told her that he needed to make a detour as the main road was heavily congested.

“As they neared the Kionsom waterfall area, the driver allegedly instructed the victim to move to the front passenger seat. He then groped her thigh and was told by the victim not to do it again,” he said in a statement.

The driver suddenly flicked out a pocket knife from his pouch and demanded that she hand over her money.

Fearing for her safety, the victim flung the car door open and jumped off the moving vehicle, resulting in injuries to her body.

She later contacted a friend to fetch her and lodged a police report at 1.14 pm.

Her employer also took to Facebook to raise the alarm over the incident, where she warned other women to be careful when calling for a ride. The post was then reposted on Lokal Sabahan Facebook page.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect’s car registration number is registered to another vehicle and authorities are now actively tracking him down.

Anyone with information about the case is advised to contact investigating officer Inspector Riduan Abd Maji at 010-5144059 to assist in the investigation.
