Heading To Genting Highlands Soon? You’ll Have To Pay For Toll Starting Thursday

FYI.
If you’re planning to head over Genting Highlands for vacation, you’ll have to fork out a bit more money before entering into the tourist destination.

This is because the toll system will come into effect this Thursday (May 28) under a new fee structure introduced by its authorised road operator for Jalan Genting Highlands.

What are the toll fees?

According to Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd, toll charges will be implemented in two phases, with all types of permitted vehicles having to pay upon entering Genting Highlands through Genting Sempah or Gohtong Jaya.

Here’s the breakdown under Phase 1:

  • Class 1 vehicles: RM5 for cars and vans
  • Class 2 vehicles: RM15 for medium lorries
  • Class 3 vehicles: RM25 for heavy lorries
  • Class 4 vehicles: RM3.30 for taxis
  • Class 5 vehicles: RM5 for buses

Lingkaran Cekap added that Classes 2, 3, 4 and 5 vehicles must use designated “Lorong Khas” (special) lanes or utilise the licence plate recognition (LPR) system.

Exemptions

The toll operator said certain vehicles are exempted from toll charges without requiring registration, such as emergency vehicles and motorcycles.

Private vehicles belonging to public servants working at designated government institutions in Genting Highlands including schools, police stations, the fire and rescue department, district offices and clinics are also exempted subject to registration and entry via LPR or special lanes.

Starting June 28, Lingkaran Cekap will offer preferential schemes to those residing permanently in Genting Highlands, where they can register up to two Class 1 vehicles per household.

Eligible residents can also either choose a preferential rate that’s 10% lower than the standard charge, or subscribe to a six-month season pass offering unlimited entries through the LPR or special lanes.

Lingkaran Cekap added registered vehicles will not incur charges prior to June 28, and that exemptions and preferential rates are subject to periodical review to reflect operational and policy requirements.
