Mohamad Sabu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, also shared his recent visit in Shenzhen, where he observed the packaging and distribution processes of fresh Malaysian durians by the Joy Ming Mau company.

I was taken to see the fresh durian packaging and distribution warehouse operated by Joy Ming Mau, Shenzhen.

The time taken for fresh Malaysian durians to be distributed to sales outlets in Shenzhen is only 2 days,” said Mohamad Sabu.

Strong demand in China

During his visit to Sam’s Club and Ole supermarkets in Shenzhen, Mohamad Sabu witnessed the high demand for Musang King durians from Malaysia.

“I saw Malaysian Musang King durians being sold at around RM350 each here, and the demand was extremely high. All the stock was sold out within just a few hours,” he noted.

He also mentioned that Chinese importers are considering introducing other durian varieties, such as durian kampung, into the Chinese market.

“I was informed that durian importers from China are also exploring the possibility of bringing other varieties, such as durian kampung, to the Chinese market.

Let us all hope that in the future, durian kampung will also enjoy high demand here so that all durian growers can benefit from this effort,” he added.

The success of these initial exports marks a significant milestone for Malaysia’s durian industry, which is projected to generate revenue exceeding RM1.8 billion by 2030.
