Former M’sian Minister Auctions His RM80K Rolex Watch To Fund Aid For Palestine

Bidding will end at midnight today.
With the ongoing Israel-Palestine war showing no signs of stopping soon, there has been a great need for monetary aid in order to provide basic necessities for Palestinian civilians suffering from the conflict.

Recently, former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri showed his generosity and kindness by putting his Rolex watch up for auction to aid the Palestinian cause.

Former M’sian minister auctions his RM80K Rolex watch

Taking to his Instagram account, Dr Zulkifli wrote that he was putting his Rolex watch up for auction so that the funds could be used to provide relief and assistance to Palestinians.

“To uphold the order and celebrate the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in donating a billion dollars to Palestine each year, I would like to open a bid for my beloved Rolex watch with a starting price of RM40,000.

“Increments will start at RM100 and above, where the proceeds will be dully donated to the welfare of the Palestinian people who are suffering there,” he wrote.

Dr Zulkifli added that those who were interested in purchasing the watch may place their bids in the comment section.

According to NST, the watch is a Rolex Datejust 41, where it’s believed to be retailed at a price of RM80,000.

Watch was gifted by Saudi King

In the post, Dr Zulkifli shared that the watch was gifted to him by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Abdulaziz during his visit to Malaysia in 2017.

“In February 2017, I received a surprise call while attending a meeting as Bank Negara’s Shariah Advisory Panel. 

“I was requested to represent all Malaysian muftis and scholars and deliver a speech as the Mufti of the Federal Territory before the King of Saudi Arabia, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Hafizahullahu Ta’ala.

“Days after the ceremony at the St. Regis Hotel, the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Malaysia reached out to me and told me that the King had given me a souvenir,” he wrote.

Dr Zulkifli also said he never opened the Rolex watch’s box and it was never directly in his possession as he always kept it at his office in Putrajaya until he was elected as minister.

According to his Facebook post, the bid now stands at a whopping RM131,000. The bidding will come to a close at midnight today (Oct 31).
